Yesterday, Once More

Scores by Richard Pavlicek

When I was young I’d listen to the radio, waitin’ for my fav’rite songs; when they played I’d sing along… Now it’s your chance to sing along with this bidding challenge. The six problems first appeared in the April 1978 Gold Coast Bridge News as a bidding panel, of which I was the moderator.

In September 2000 these problems were presented as a poll, with 208 entrants from 72 locations. The poll is closed, but you can still try it as a quiz and find your score immediately. Simply choose your call as South from the choices offered.

Assume both sides use Standard American bidding (unless noted otherwise) with 15-17 notrumps,
five-card majors and weak two-bids. The object is to determine the best calls based on judgment,
so only basic conventions are allowed. For a system reference, see Standard American Bridge.

So bid away! But remember: In the scoring, every sha-la-la-la, every shing-a-ling-a-ling will count.
